Position: Hazardous Materials Forklift Operator

Overview:

The role involves operating standard and specialized Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to manage the movement, loading, unloading, stacking, and unstacking of various materials, including hazardous stock. The operator may work in automated or non-automated environments, including warehouses, open storage areas, and shipping or receiving zones. Familiarity with automated systems such as computer terminals and barcode scanning equipment is essential for tracking and managing data. The operator must obtain and maintain proficiency in MHE operation and be knowledgeable about daily operations and documentation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and maintain MHE licensing and proficiency.
  • Interpret work orders or follow verbal instructions to determine materials to be moved.
  • May be assigned to various operational areas including receiving, shipping, and storage.
  • Efficiently load and unload materials using MHE or manually.
  • Transport materials from storage or work sites to designated locations.
  • Accurately count, weigh, and document materials handled on production sheets.
  • Label materials appropriately and ensure proper identification.
  • Assist in loading trucks for transport.
  • Organize materials into bundles and secure them as necessary.
  • Lift objects manually or with hoisting equipment, maintaining cleanliness in work areas.
  • Operate various vehicles and equipment to facilitate material handling.
  • Maintain cleanliness of storage areas using warehouse sweepers as needed.
  • Be trained and capable of handling hazardous materials for shipping.
  • Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other data systems as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of OSHA compliance training and Hazardous Materials Preparer Certification as per relevant regulations.
  • High School Diploma or GED (experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis).
  • At least one year of relevant experience or training with demonstrated knowledge.
  • Specific experience in the noted skills and abilities is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently.
  • Strong multitasking skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

None required.

Security Clearance:

A SECRET Level clearance is required. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and capable of maintaining this clearance.

Physical Demands:

The physical requirements of this position include the ability to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for handling objects and controls. Employees may occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The work is conducted in a warehouse setting, involving repetitive motions and prolonged standing. Physical stamina is necessary, as lifting and outdoor work in varying weather conditions may be required.
