Job Overview:

The Grain Merchandising Accounting Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting our Grain Accounting Clerks and Grain Merchandisers. This position involves the entry and application of grain tickets, settling both inbound and outbound grain transactions, billing for rail cars, and various accounting-related tasks.

The merchandising component includes engaging with farmers, providing bids, processing contracts, addressing accounting inquiries, and supplying necessary documentation to farmers as requested.

We are particularly interested in candidates who aspire to grow into a Grain Merchandiser position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare daily bid sheets and market information accessible via the Internet.
  • Oversee the operations of the Superior Ag Hedge Desk, managing hedge transactions throughout the day to maintain consistent hedging.
  • Compile customer and contracting data for the merchandising team.
  • Originate and merchandise bushels of corn, soybeans, and wheat.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with existing customers while seeking new partnerships with local farmers.
  • Analyze market data to enhance understanding of grain markets.
  • Conduct audits of grain settlements to ensure precise payments.
  • Assist with logistics for truck and rail shipments and prepare invoices accordingly.
  • Handle the entry and application of inbound grain tickets, contract entries, and settlement processes for farmers.
  • Support the billing of grain loaded out and invoicing, ensuring meticulous attention to detail.
  • Assist with Grain Accounts Receivable tasks.
  • Collaborate with the grain merchandising team to respond to inquiries, provide current pricing, and manage contract input.
  • Address customer requests for documentation.
  • Foster professional relationships with customers.
  • Manage trade entries and balance trade positions.
  • Update web pages as necessary.
  • Comply with Superior Ag's risk management policies.
  • Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by the Grain Division Manager.
  • Adhere to company employee policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university is preferred but not required; alternatively, 1 to 2 years of relevant experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Exhibit strong personal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft GP software is preferred.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills and information.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems effectively.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and substance screening.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
