Position Overview:

The Pathologist Assistant II integrates advanced knowledge and practical skills to effectively perform laboratory procedures in designated areas. With specialized training and education, this role maintains proficiency in all aspects of pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic processes involving biological specimens, supporting healthcare professionals in diagnosing, treating, monitoring, and preventing diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the receipt, preparation, and archival/retrieval of specimens/materials.
  • Conduct validation testing and troubleshoot issues as per departmental guidelines.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clients, and laboratory staff to ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or a related field from an accredited institution.

Completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program within the last five years is required.

Certification & Licensure:

ASCP certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology is required within six months of employment.

Experience:

A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge and technical skills in gross and post-mortem examinations, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in surgical pathology.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory duties.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with diverse individuals.
  • Capability to manage workflow effectively, responding to unexpected challenges and maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding patient privacy and safety.

Work Schedule:

Full-time position with day/evening shifts, requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Compensation:

Hourly pay range is between $71.57 and $89.45, subject to variation based on experience and qualifications.
