Job Summary

Sutter Health is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for integrating knowledge, theory, and practice to execute procedures in assigned areas of the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic procedures on biological specimens to aid healthcare providers in diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of disease.
  • Receive, prepare, and archive biological specimens, as well as validate testing and troubleshoot problems, as defined by department policies and procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with physicians, clients, and staff to facilitate superior patient care and represent the laboratory positively by acting with courtesy, dignity, respect, and professionalism.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biological science or related field from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program within the last five years.
  • ASCP-American Society for Clinical Pathologist certification within six months.
  • Two years of recent relevant experience.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge and technical competence in gross and post-mortem examinations, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in surgical pathology.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected timeframes.
  • Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks, demonstrating sound judgment and problem-solving relevant to assigned duties.
  • Culturally competent communication skills to compassionately and effectively interact with individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors.
  • Ability to respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations, or problems such as equipment or information system failures, shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues.
  • Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence, with knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring patient privacy and safety.
