A Brief Overview
The Supervisor of Clinical Genomics will have supervisory oversight of the clinical genomics bioinformatics and interpretation teams. The Bioinformatics Team consists of bioinformaticians and engineers who are responsible for clinical pipeline development and validation studies, clinical case production maintenance, LIMS development and maintenance, and ongoing evaluations of innovative algorithmic approaches to improve genomic test development and implementation. The Interpretation Team consists of Genomic Scientists and Genetic Counselors who are responsible for variant interpretation, ongoing evaluations of variant prioritization tools and strategies, drafting clinical reports, clinical provider communications, and implementing new variant interpretation standards and workflows.

What you will do

  • Supervise bioinformatic and interpretation teams and address day to day operations.
  • Coordinates, leads, and supports clinical activities within area of expertise.
  • Oversees or performs the administrative and day-to-day operational activities of the Clinical Genomics Team, to include facilities operations, fiscal management, and administrative support activities. Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the Clinical Genomics Laboratory; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations.
  • Performs all human resource management responsibilities such as conducting employee performance reviews, transfers, interviews, hiring, disciplining, and termination of employees.
  • Manages weekly schedules, vacation requests and competency for all staff
  • Provides mentorship, training, guidance, coaching and professional leadership to all members on the team.
  • Prepares technical reports reflecting department process volume, testing results, analysis, trends, conclusions or recommendations for management and other hospital personnel.
  • Assign team members to specific projects involving germline and somatic variant analyses; oversee project progress and guide staff in problem solving.
  • Work with Faculty to plan, develop and improve bioinformatics pipelines for Pathology.
  • Coordinate with SHC IT and Stanford Clinical Laboratories to ensure integration with the Laboratory Information Management System and other laboratory workflows and systems.
  • Foster a collaborative culture between informatics groups in SHC, Stanford Children's Health, School of Medicine, and greater Stanford University community.
  • Designs and implements systems to collect, maintain, and analyze operational data; generates various regular and ad hoc reports, as well as other information related to projects and/or programs. Offers suggestions for the continual improvement and performance of the databases and/or systems.
  • Plans and develops strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for specific clinical projects or programs.
  • Assists Medical Directors when presenting information on new assays to providers.
  • Works with Medical Directors and laboratory leadership to plan testing strategy and validations of new high complexity assays.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university, Required.
  • Graduate Degree (Ph.D or M.S.) in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university, Preferred.


Experience Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience directly related to the hiring laboratory's methodology and function, Required.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $ $80.65 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
