Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Radiology Supervisor, the MRI Imaging Specialist conducts a range of MRI examinations and provides essential departmental support.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts MRI scans of the brain, body, spine, and limbs on patients of varying ages, skillfully adjusting scanning parameters to accommodate different body types. Selects and modifies technical settings to enhance image quality, employing advanced imaging techniques.
  • Recognizes significant anatomical abnormalities and adjusts T1 and T2 scanning parameters to deliver crucial information for diagnostic interpretation. Modifies equipment settings to minimize risks to both patients and staff.
  • Expertly performs Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, and specialized exams such as MRA runoffs and post-arthrogram evaluations.
  • Utilizes magnetic resonance technology effectively, adhering to established protocols while optimizing scanning techniques, including window and contrast levels, scanning sequences, and image reconstruction.
  • Certified to initiate and discontinue IV lines for contrast studies, responding appropriately to any adverse reactions and utilizing an IV Contrast Power Injector proficiently.
  • Ensures patient identification and reviews requisitions for consistency, documenting relevant data accurately on MRI requisitions. Responsible for comprehensive patient screening prior to MR system room entry.
  • Communicates potential risks associated with implants and devices to all individuals entering the MR system room.
  • Reviews examinations for technical precision, presenting completed studies to radiologists and sharing relevant information with patient care teams.
  • Maintains proper identification on all images and ensures anatomical orientation is accurately represented.
  • Documents daily patient MRI logs meticulously, including patient details and examination specifics to uphold quality care standards.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills in patient care, prioritizing critical tasks and implementing physician directives effectively.
  • Exhibits proficiency in computer skills related to patient orders, status updates, and billing.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:

Evening shifts from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with potential weekend and holiday shifts.


Qualifications:

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience, including on-the-job training or internships as an MRI technologist, or registry-eligible ARRT advanced certification in MRI required. New hires must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiology technology program or MRI Accredited Certificate Program required.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Certificate or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate in MRI within 12 months of hire.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Venipuncture competency must be achieved within three months of hire.
  • Physical ability to stand, push, pull, and lift patients.
  • Flexibility to adjust routines to accommodate patient needs without disrupting departmental flow.
  • Ability to lift objects over 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Capacity to concentrate on detailed tasks amidst interruptions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of customer service principles within the organization.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer software.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative Labor/Management Partnership environment.
