Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Radiology Supervisor, the MRI Technologist is responsible for conducting a range of MRI procedures and providing departmental support.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts MRI scans of the brain, body, spine, and extremities for patients of various ages, effectively adjusting scanning parameters based on individual patient needs. Selects and modifies technical factors to enhance image quality, utilizing advanced imaging techniques.
  • Recognizes significant pathology in patients and adjusts T1 and T2 scanning parameters to yield relevant information for interpretation. Modifies equipment settings to minimize risks to both the patient and the technologist.
  • Executes Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, and specialized examinations such as MRA runoffs and post-arthrogram evaluations.
  • Utilizes magnetic resonance technology efficiently, adhering to established protocols and employing scanning techniques including window and contrast levels, scanning time sequences, and image reconstruction.
  • Certified to initiate and discontinue IV lines for contrast studies in accordance with departmental policies. Capable of identifying and responding to IV contrast reactions, including alerting emergency personnel when necessary.
  • Verifies patient identity, reviews requisitions and previous studies for consistency, and accurately documents relevant data on MRI requisitions. Responsible for thorough screening of patients prior to entering the MR system room.
  • Effectively communicates the risks associated with implants and devices to all individuals entering the MR system room.
  • Reviews each examination for technical precision, presents completed examinations to the radiologist, and conveys pertinent information to the care team post-procedure.
  • Ensures proper anatomical orientation and identification on all required images.
  • Maintains a daily log of patient MRI procedures, documenting essential patient information to uphold quality care standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize patient care and execute physician orders efficiently.
  • Exhibits proficiency in computer skills related to patient orders, status changes, and billing.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, Evening Shift from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. May include some weekends and holidays.

Qualifications:
Experience
  • At least one (1) year of experience, including on-the-job training and internships as an MRI technologist, or registry-eligible ARRT advanced certification in MRI. New hires must obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiology technology program or MRI Accredited Certificate Program required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Certificate or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate in MRI within 12 months of hire.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Venipuncture competency must be completed within three (3) months of hire.
  • Physical capability to stand, push, pull, and lift patients.
  • Ability to adapt routines to accommodate patient or departmental needs without disrupting workflow.
  • May need to lift objects over 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination.
  • Position requires concentration on detailed tasks amidst frequent interruptions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Understanding of customer service principles within the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer software.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative Labor/Management Partnership environment.
