Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Radiology Supervisor, the MRI Technologist conducts a range of MRI examinations and supports departmental operations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts MRI scans of the brain, body, spine, and limbs for patients of varying ages, adjusting scanning parameters as necessary. Selects and modifies technical factors to optimize imaging quality; employs flare and SAT imaging techniques. Determines suitable equipment for scanning, including body coils.
  • Recognizes significant pathology in patients and modifies T1 and T2 scanning parameters to deliver critical information for analysis. Adjusts equipment settings to reduce risks to both the patient and themselves.
  • Efficiently performs Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, and specialized examinations such as MRA runoffs and post-arthrogram evaluations.
  • Utilizes magnetic resonance technology effectively, adjusting parameters to minimize exposure. Adheres to established protocols and employs scanning techniques including window and contrast levels, scanning time sequences, scanning delays, and thickness adjustments. Archives and retrieves images as needed.
  • Certified to initiate and discontinue IV lines for contrast studies in accordance with departmental policies. Recognizes and responds to IV contrast reactions, including contacting emergency services when necessary. Proficient in the operation of an IV Contrast Power Injector.
  • Ensures accurate patient identification, reviews requisitions and previous studies for consistency, and records essential data on MRI requisitions. Responsible for thorough screening of patients prior to entering the MR system room.
  • Effectively communicates the risks associated with implants, devices, pacemakers, and other objects to anyone entering the MR system room.
  • Reviews each examination for technical precision, presents completed examinations to the radiologist, and conveys relevant information to the patient care team post-procedure.
  • Ensures correct anatomical orientation on all required images and verifies proper film identification.
  • Maintains a daily log of patient MRI activities, accurately documenting patient details to uphold quality care standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize patient care and execute physician orders effectively.
  • Exhibits proficiency in computer skills related to patient orders, status updates, and billing.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:

Evening shifts from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with potential weekend and holiday work.


Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • At least one (1) year of experience, including on-the-job training and internships as an MRI technologist or registry-eligible ARRT advanced certification in MRI required; new hires must obtain this certification within 12 months of hire, along with one (1) year of recent experience as a Radiologic technologist with ARRT certification.
  • Current KP Coalition employees are exempt from this experience requirement.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited radiology technology program or MRI Accredited Certificate Program required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Certificate OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging within 12 months of hire.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Venipuncture competency must be achieved within three (3) months of hire.
  • Ability to stand, push, pull, and lift patients as required.
  • Flexibility to adjust routines to accommodate patient needs without disrupting departmental workflow.
  • May need to lift objects over 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, as well as prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Position requires focus on detailed tasks with frequent interruptions and the ability to concentrate for 20 to 45 minutes at a time.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Understanding of customer service standards within the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with patients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer software.
  • Must be able to work within a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
