Position Overview:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists in delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients. This position involves assisting in the preparation, dispensing, and documentation of medications for a diverse patient population, including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Key Responsibilities:
Under minimal supervision, the technician is expected to perform duties with a high level of expertise, showcasing exemplary work ethics and a commitment to the success of the pharmacy operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Executing tasks assigned by pharmacists that do not require direct supervision or verification.
  • Effectively communicating with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Identifying and reporting any equipment or operational issues to the pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
  • Engaging with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.

Qualifications:
Licensure and Certification:
- Current certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or valid ExCPT certification from the National Health Career Association.
- Active licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
- A clean criminal record is mandatory, with no felony or drug-related convictions.

Experience:
Required:
- None specified.
Preferred:
- At least one year of experience in a pharmacy setting.
- Familiarity with standard keyboard operations and typing skills of 20-30 words per minute.

Education:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Requirements:
- Availability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to lift 20-50 lbs.
- Prolonged periods of standing and sitting, frequent bending, and walking.
- Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication abilities are essential.
