Position Overview

William J. Ostiguy High School, an alternative educational institution under the auspices of Action for Boston Community Development Inc., is dedicated to fostering a secure and supportive environment for young individuals in recovery. We invite applications for the role of English Language Arts Teacher, where you will play a pivotal role in nurturing the academic and personal growth of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging ELA instruction to high school learners in grades 9-12, emphasizing a culture of inquiry and exploration.
  • Adhere to the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks and the Ostiguy High School curriculum guide to ensure educational standards are met.
  • Create and implement educational materials, assessments, and resources to evaluate student progress.
  • Maintain precise records of attendance and academic performance.
  • Establish a conducive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management techniques.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to program enhancement initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with students and their families regarding academic achievements and behavioral matters.
  • Facilitate student-teacher mediation processes as necessary.
  • Participate in and lead extracurricular activities as required.
  • Attend and contribute to all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures established by Ostiguy High School.
  • Collaborate closely with counseling staff to support student behavior management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and one to three years of teaching experience with youth are essential.
  • Certification as an ELA Teacher is required or must be obtained within the first academic year of employment.
  • Experience teaching in an alternative high school setting is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team and engage effectively with parents.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and teamwork skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in interacting sensitively with individuals from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
