Job Title: English Language Arts TeacherJob Summary

Action for Boston Community Development is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Language Arts Teacher to join our team at William J. Ostiguy High School. As an ELA Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and enriching environment for our youth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging ELA lessons for high school students, grades 9 through 12, with a focus on promoting an atmosphere of inquiry.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum frameworks, city-wide learning standards, and Ostiguy High School curriculum guide.
  • Design and implement assessments, resources, and standards for evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grading records.
  • Establish a stable learning environment through effective classroom management.
  • Participate in staff and program development activities.
  • Communicate with students and parents regarding student attendance, academic performance, and behavior.
  • Participate in student teacher mediations.
  • Participate in and facilitate after-school activities as needed.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Follow all Ostiguy High School policies.
  • Work closely with counselors for behavior management.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and one to three years of previous teaching experience with youth is required.
  • ELA Teacher certification is required or must be able to obtain certification within the first academic year of employment.
  • Previous teaching experience in an alternative high school setting is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team, with fellow staff, and with parents.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
