English Language Arts Educator

Established in 2006, William J. Ostiguy High School is a Boston Public School operated by Action for Boston Community Development Inc. Our mission is to provide a safe, sober, and supportive school environment for youth in recovery to develop essential skills and strengths.
We are seeking an English Language Arts Teacher to join our team in creating a supportive and enriching environment for our students. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing instruction in ELA for high school students, grades 9 through 12, with a focus on promoting an atmosphere of inquiry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement ELA curriculum aligned with Massachusetts curriculum frameworks and city-wide learning standards.
- Design and deliver engaging lessons, assessments, and resources to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grading records, and communicate with students and parents regarding student progress.
- Participate in staff and program development activities, and collaborate with colleagues to achieve shared goals.
- Provide a stable learning environment through effective classroom management and conflict resolution strategies.
- Participate in student teacher mediations, and facilitate after-school activities as needed.
- Attend all staff meetings, and adhere to Ostiguy High School policies.
- Work closely with counselors to support student behavior management, and perform other related duties as required.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's Degree in a related field, and one to three years of previous teaching experience with youth.
- Previous teaching experience in an alternative high school setting is highly preferred.
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team, with fellow staff and with parents.
- Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required.
- Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
- MA Teacher certification is required or must be able to obtain certification within the first academic year of employment.
