English Language Arts Teacher Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Language Arts Teacher to join our team at William J. Ostiguy High School. As an alternative Boston Public School, we provide a safe and supportive environment for youth in recovery to develop the skills and strengths needed for personal, academic, and vocational success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide instruction in ELA for high school students, grades 9 through 12, with a focus on promoting an atmosphere of inquiry.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks and city-wide learning standards.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grading records.
  • Establish a stable and respectful learning environment through effective classroom management.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives.
  • Communicate with students and parents regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and one to three years of previous teaching experience with youth is required.
  • Previous teaching experience in an alternative high school setting is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team and with parents.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • MA Teacher certification is required or must be able to obtain certification within the first academic year of employment.
