Position Summary:

The Chesapeake Bay Trust, a dedicated non-profit organization, is in search of a Financial Analyst to join our Annapolis, MD team. This pivotal role is integral to the financial operations of our organization, reporting directly to the Finance Manager within the Finance and Administration division. The selected candidate will oversee comprehensive accounting functions, including reconciliation, invoicing, banking, and audit assistance, while also contributing to the reporting of financial metrics for the organization.

This role requires a commitment of at least two days per week in the office during the initial months of employment, transitioning to a more flexible arrangement thereafter. You will be part of a dynamic, collaborative team of over 35 professionals who are passionate about advancing the Trust's mission and embodying our core values of accountability, inclusiveness, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities (for part-time role, approximately 25 hours/week):

  • Conduct bank and investment account reconciliations.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations for various transactions, including revenue recognition and salary adjustments.
  • Calculate and manage journal entries related to net asset restrictions.
  • Handle journal entries and reconciliations for pledges receivable.
  • Support banking activities as a backup approver.
  • Review fund balance reports to assist in the closing process.
  • Prepare schedules and reconciliations for the annual audit.
  • Manage monthly corporate credit card payment entries.
  • Collaborate with team members on entries related to the Chesapeake Conservation Climate Corps.

Additional Responsibilities (for full-time role):

  • Invoice programmatic funding partners on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Track and report on personnel costs and indirect expenses.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reports each quarter.
  • Provide financial reporting to support program staff in their progress reporting.
  • Assist with federal financial reporting for programmatic funding.
  • Support the annual Single Audit with necessary documentation and schedules.
  • Streamline tracking processes for awards and expenses across programs.
  • Prepare journal entries for various accounting functions as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, or a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • CPA certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with not-for-profit and government accounting practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Able to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
