Position Overview:

This role necessitates a solid understanding of the principles and practices governing the elections process in North Carolina. The individual will act as the Assistant to the Director of Elections, undertaking all necessary responsibilities to ensure the smooth administration of elections and related office functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform standard clerical duties
  • Conduct data entry tasks
  • Maintain and update databases
  • Create professional documents utilizing Microsoft Office applications
  • Oversee the maintenance and auditing of campaign finance records
  • Coordinate and prepare training and outreach initiatives
  • Provide general support to the Director of Elections and Board Members as required
  • Execute other related tasks as assigned

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of election process principles and practices
  • Strong knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
  • Proficient in spelling, grammar, and arithmetic
  • Skilled in computer usage, typing, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Effective public speaking and clear communication abilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact tactfully with voters and the public
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders
  • Proficient in operating standard office and election equipment
  • Ability to interpret and apply election laws
  • Willingness to work overtime during elections, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to travel for training conferences as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

A degree from a two-year college or technical school in administrative office support or a related field, coupled with at least two years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Notary Public certification is required or must be obtained. Election Administrator certification is required or must be obtained in accordance with North Carolina State Board of Elections regulations. A valid driver's license and a vehicle for daily use are essential. The ideal candidate will be technology-savvy, detail-oriented, organized, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
