Job Summary

Mclaurin Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. As a key member of our JETS II contract team, you will be responsible for performing systems engineering and integration (SE&I) for the development, manufacturing, testing, and certification of flight hardware, including emergency Masks for ISS and Orion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Systems Engineering and Integration: Perform SE&I for the development, manufacturing, testing, and certification of flight hardware, including emergency Masks for ISS and Orion.
  • Leadership and Direction: Provide direction to matrix organizations in the requirements development, design, manufacturing, testing, and certification of the ISS/Orion Emergency Masks.
  • Systems Development: Perform systems engineering functions in coordinating and supporting flight hardware products and systems development phases, such as design, procurement, fabrication, test, data analysis, implementation, certification, and flight/mission delivery.
  • Documentation and Review: Review essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
  • Testing and Certification: Develop testing and certification plans based on the requirements. Develop and/or review verification data packages to ensure the requirements have been met.
  • Troubleshooting: Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware, development or qualification test articles, or test support hardware.
  • Results Evaluation: Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from the accomplishment of engineering tasks.
  • Problem-Solving: Select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work that are broad in scope and complexity.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues and for support.
  • Job Functions: Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  • Travel: Periodic travel may be required to support hardware development and testing.
Qualifications
  • Education: Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering with experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, thermal testing, design software and tools, and office software.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from various technical disciplines.
  • Complexity Management: Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical systems and work with others in problem-solving as part of a team.
  • Task Management: Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules and to work unsupervised for long periods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Prior experience with flight hardware or with Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) hardware development.
  • Knowledge of JSC: Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
