Job Overview

Position Summary:
The Patient Registration Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient registration of patients at Morrow County Hospital. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at providing excellent service to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the role, though additional tasks may be assigned as needed:

  • Welcome patients with a friendly demeanor, fostering a positive atmosphere within the hospital.
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate necessary tests with various departments.
  • Clearly explain registration processes and hospital policies, addressing any inquiries from patients or their families.
  • Guide visitors and patients to their appropriate destinations within the facility.
  • Assess registration priorities based on the department's needs.
  • Utilize software to determine Medicare coverage for outpatient services and secure necessary patient signatures.
  • Collect and input vital patient information, including medical history and insurance details, into the hospital's systems.
  • Ensure proper consent forms are signed for treatment, including inquiries about Advanced Directives.
  • Facilitate communication with physicians' offices to finalize outpatient orders.
  • Provide patients with HIPAA privacy information and obtain required signatures.
  • Gather information regarding Advance Directives as mandated by regulatory standards.
  • Assist self-pay patients in initiating financial aid applications.
  • Issue wristbands to registered patients as per safety protocols.
  • Distribute and explain necessary forms to patients and their guardians.
  • Route various forms to the appropriate departments for processing.
  • Implement pre-registration procedures for scheduled tests and surgeries.
  • Complete necessary documentation for workers' compensation claims.
  • Handle phone calls and messages, ensuring they reach the correct personnel.
  • Perform switchboard duties as required.
  • Compile daily census reports and distribute them to relevant departments.
  • Assist the Emergency Department with supply orders and patient transfers.
  • Verify insurance coverage for all registered patients.
  • Collect co-payments and manage cash transactions accurately.
  • Scan essential documents into patient records.
  • Generate comprehensive patient records to ensure compliance with billing processes.
  • Conduct bedside registrations when necessary.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Support other departmental functions as needed.
  • Engage in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Be flexible with scheduling to ensure 24-hour coverage as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not involve supervisory duties.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year of experience in a hospital registration setting is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and proficiency in typing.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Competence in using computer systems effectively.

Work Environment:
The role requires flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and holidays, to meet the needs of the hospital.
