Job Overview

Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Acute Care Unit is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients admitted to the hospital. This role involves a variety of critical functions aimed at ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the role, although additional responsibilities may be assigned:

  1. Conducting patient admissions and thorough assessments to identify nursing needs and develop individualized care plans.
  2. Implementing nursing care plans and coordinating necessary diagnostic tests and procedures.
  3. Maintaining accurate documentation of patient care, including vital signs and responses to treatment.
  4. Providing continuous monitoring and performing both physical and psychological assessments of patients, intervening as necessary.
  5. Operating and overseeing medical life-support equipment and systems.
  6. Facilitating communication among patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams regarding patient conditions.
  7. Interpreting and executing medical orders effectively.
  8. Planning educational initiatives for patients and their families to enhance understanding of health conditions and lifestyle adjustments.
  9. Coordinating discharge planning and ongoing care strategies.
  10. Supervising support staff within the Acute Care Unit, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and legal standards.

Qualifications:
To excel in this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Telemetry experience or completion of an EKG course is preferred.
  • Diabetes Education training may be required.
  • Ability to read and interpret medical literature and communicate effectively.
  • Mathematical proficiency for calculating medication dosages and other relevant figures.
  • Problem-solving skills to address practical challenges in patient care.
  • Basic computer skills are preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
Current CPR certification is required, along with a valid RN license. ACLS certification must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
