Job Overview

Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Acute Care Unit is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients admitted to the hospital. This role encompasses a variety of essential functions aimed at ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are integral to the role, though additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary:

  1. Conducts patient admissions and thorough assessments to identify nursing needs and formulates individualized care plans.
  2. Implements nursing care plans and coordinates necessary diagnostic tests and procedures.
  3. Maintains accurate documentation of patient care, including vital signs, conditions, and responses to treatment.
  4. Provides continuous monitoring and performs both physical and psychological assessments, administering treatment as required.
  5. Initiates emergency protocols and provides immediate care upon recognizing critical situations.
  6. Operates and oversees medical life-support equipment.
  7. Acts as a communication bridge among patients, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring pertinent information regarding patient conditions is shared.
  8. Interprets and executes medical directives.
  9. Plans educational initiatives for patients and their families based on their understanding and needs.
  10. Facilitates discharge planning and continuity of care.

Supervisory Duties:
This position includes direct supervision of support staff within the Acute Care Unit, adhering to hospital policies and legal regulations. Responsibilities encompass planning, assigning tasks, and addressing any issues that arise.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Telemetry experience or completion of an EKG course is preferred.
  • Diabetes Education training may be required.

Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should possess the ability to:

  • Read and interpret medical literature and technical documents.
  • Compose reports and professional correspondence.
  • Perform mathematical calculations related to medication dosages and other relevant metrics.
  • Address practical problems with effective solutions.
  • Utilize basic computer skills.

Certifications:
Current certifications required include:

  • CPR certification (to be obtained within four weeks of hire).
  • Active RN license in Ohio.
  • ACLS certification (to be obtained within twelve months of hire).
  • PALS certification is preferred.

This position typically requires a schedule of 7 PM to 7 AM, with a commitment of 48 hours per pay period.
