About the Role

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Prevention Education. This is a critical leadership position that will play a key role in advancing the university's commitment to creating a culture free from sexual and gender-based violence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive sexual and gender-based violence prevention strategic plan that aligns with best practices and evidence-based research.
  • Coordinate the Sexual Violence Prevention Initiative, serving as the convener of the Sexual Violence Prevention Council and leading two advisory groups for students.
  • Develop and deliver sexual and gender-based violence prevention education programs, ensuring they meet the needs of the campus community and are grounded in trauma-informed practices.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners, including Student Conduct, Hokie Wellness, Human Resources, Faculty Affairs, and others, to advance sexual and gender-based violence prevention education.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to publicize sexual and gender-based violence prevention programs.
  • Stay up-to-date on sexual and gender-based violence prevention education research, best practices, and trends in higher education.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring resources and programmatic needs are met.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in public health, counseling, gender studies, sociology, psychology, college student development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and assessing sexual and gender-based violence prevention programs and campaigns.
  • Experience working with organizations that focus on sexual and gender-based violence prevention, sexual assault, domestic violence, and/or stalking.
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal laws, including Title IX, the Clery Act, and the Violence Against Women Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build consensus, manage sensitive information, and act with discretion and neutrality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office programs and case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of intersectionality, diversity, equity, and social justice and its impacts on sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Experience developing and delivering sexual and gender-based violence prevention education programs in a college or university setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure or crisis situations.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Experience leading and supervising a team of sexual and gender-based violence prevention professionals.
  • Experience working across a large, complex enterprise.
