Poultry Program Coordinator

Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Agricultural Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Glade Road Poultry Center. This individual will be responsible for coordinating animal care activities, implementing research protocols, and serving as a liaison between farm operations and the poultry programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain facilities, ensuring the welfare of poultry flocks associated with departmental research
  • Coordinate daily farm operations, including feed inventory management and maintenance of basic feed mill equipment
  • Oversee facility scheduling and billing, ensuring efficient and accurate research and teaching protocols
  • Communicate effectively with multiple farm users to ensure smooth farm operations
  • Assist in teaching students in the Introductory to Animal Sciences lab class

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, or a related field, or equivalent applicable experience or training
  • Relevant experience in farm operations, equipment, and maintenance, including poultry physiology, environmental regulation, disease prevention, and biosecurity
  • Basic computer skills and ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license and no exposure to avian or swine species outside of the workplace

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in poultry and other farm species, with supervisory skills
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple farm units and balance diverse needs of research and teaching faculty users
  • Ability or willingness to perform tasks such as vaccine administration, euthanasia, necropsy, and blood collection on research animals
