Job Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated professional to serve as the Chief of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Education. This role is pivotal in leading, managing, and coordinating comprehensive educational initiatives aimed at preventing sexual and gender-based violence within the community. The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety and accountability, ensuring that all members of the community are engaged in sustaining a violence-free environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the Sexual Violence Prevention Initiative, acting as the primary coordinator for the Sexual Violence Prevention Council, which includes essential campus partners.
  • Develop and implement a robust strategic plan focused on sexual and gender-based violence prevention that adheres to best practices and is informed by evidence.
  • Create an operational framework for the newly established department, ensuring that prevention efforts are unified and comprehensive across the university.
  • Engage with the community to gather feedback, ensuring that prevention programs are responsive to the needs of all stakeholders.
  • Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of prevention initiatives, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Design and deliver educational programs that incorporate clear learning objectives and assess their impact on the community.
  • Provide informative presentations to various audiences, including community partners, on prevention education and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Title IX Coordinator to align prevention education with compliance requirements and address trends in reports of sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Work alongside various campus departments to enhance the effectiveness of prevention education.
  • Develop a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy to promote prevention programs and initiatives.
  • Stay informed on the latest research and trends in sexual and gender-based violence prevention to ensure the delivery of high-quality educational programs.
  • Manage the departmental budget, continually assessing resource needs to support programmatic goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field such as public health, counseling, or gender studies.
  • Proven experience in creating and evaluating sexual and gender-based violence prevention programs.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations related to sexual violence prevention.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to build consensus among diverse groups.
  • Experience in handling sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of intersectionality and its relevance to sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Experience in a higher education setting developing prevention education programs.
  • Ability to make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience in budget management and team leadership.
