JOB PURPOSE:

Under the general oversight of the Regional Site Director and EHS Manager of Education, provides exceptional Early Childhood Development services to infants and toddlers enrolled in center programs. This includes fostering educational, social, physical, nutritional, and psychological growth of children in their care. Engages with parents regarding their child's individual progress and maintains accurate records of attendance and educational achievements. Plans educational activities, serves meals, and ensures a nurturing and secure learning environment for children.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountable for the care and supervision of all enrolled children in the PACE Education Division center-based programs, including planning and executing classroom lessons, conducting meetings and discussions with parents, coordinating activities and events for children and families, interacting with the community, and providing customer service through various communication channels. Prepares necessary documentation, reports, and records as required by the early childhood education program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
  • Supervise children for up to 7 hours daily.
  • Ensure compliance with child/adult ratio requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain a clean, safe caregiving environment, promoting good hygiene practices and ensuring the well-being of all children.
  • Respond promptly to children's varying personal needs, temperaments, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Implement and document personalized feeding plans for infants and toddlers, respecting individual preferences.
  • Attend to infants and toddlers' hygiene needs during routines such as diaper changes and feeding.
  • Prepare and/or serve meals and snacks, encouraging social interaction and good nutrition.
  • Maintain a sanitized environment, including food preparation and eating areas.
  • Supervise children during rest periods.
  • Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans that reflect mandated elements and promote the holistic development of Early Head Start children.
  • Collaborate with parents to create individualized lesson plans and objectives for each child's development.
  • Organize daily activities to provide children with diverse learning experiences.
  • Schedule and support developmental screenings and ongoing assessments of children's skills.
  • Assist in implementing the Individual Family Service Plan and coordinate services with families and community agencies.
  • Ensure that educational timelines are adhered to within the required calendar day.
  • Prepare learning environments that encourage active exploration and interaction.
  • Foster open, friendly relationships with families, promoting parental involvement and nurturing parent-child bonds.
  • Encourage feelings of security and trust in children through warmth and support.
  • Conduct home visits and parent conferences to assess and support children’s progress.
  • Develop transition plans with families and relevant agencies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and training to enhance professional knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, and other required documentation.
  • Prepare necessary reports and correspondence related to job responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively with team members.
  • Support recruitment and enrollment goals through community resource access.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE):
  • Education and Work Experience
    • Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • Must possess a current and valid Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
    • Must have three (3) semester units in early childhood development focused on infant and toddler development.
    • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Ability to provide nurturing interactions and plan learning experiences that promote children’s progress.
    • Knowledge of safety issues in infant/toddler care.
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills required.
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus, but not required.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
  • Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certificate.
  • Valid California Driver's License and insurance coverage.
  • Must pass background checks prior to employment.
  • Verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment.
  • Must complete a physical examination at time of employment.
  • Provide proof of required immunizations.
  • Must complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually.
  • Must obtain 21 hours/year of professional development to maintain teaching certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The working conditions and physical demands of this position will be those that must be met to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. The physical environment is typically a preschool setting with moderate noise levels. Responsibilities include outdoor and indoor supervision of children, lifting and carrying up to 45 lbs, and maintaining visual supervision of children. The individual must be able to engage in activities with children and maintain effective communication with children, staff, and parents.
