Position Title: Senior Cloud Operations Engineer

Job Summary: The role involves researching, developing, implementing, and maintaining DevSecOps methodologies and tools to streamline the integration and deployment of intricate cybersecurity software applications for the Department of Defense (DoD). Responsibilities include overseeing the deployment of various software baselines with tailored Virtual Machine (VM) and container configurations, as well as managing development, testing, and deployment activities. The candidate will ensure that the DevSecOps environment supports the design, implementation, deployment, and execution of automated testing while exploring new DevSecOps technologies. The position requires transitioning new technologies and processes into the corporate DevSecOps environment across multiple projects and programs. The successful candidate will collect, process, and present metrics related to build, network, security, and performance to demonstrate automation improvements over time. Additionally, the role involves migrating legacy DevOps/IA/IT capabilities to new systems while preserving project history and documentation. A balanced approach to hybrid cloud distribution between private corporate infrastructure and public cloud services is essential. The position also supports business development and proposal efforts through DevSecOps expertise and requires the ability to work independently across various programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a range of duties related to DevSecOps functions, including authoring and maintaining automation deployment and monitoring scripts, developing security controls, managing virtualized assets, and creating network configurations.
  • Author and maintain scripts in multiple programming languages, ensuring that work products are configuration managed.
  • Analyze real-world challenges and implement solutions in accordance with corporate guidelines, DoD DevSecOps directives, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure system stability, accessibility, and proper configuration of assigned technical systems and components.

Desired Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, maintain, install, and support networked virtual and physical machines, software applications, and security controls.
  • Assist software developers and integration/test engineers.
  • Maintain a laboratory environment adhering to cybersecurity policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose system issues, analyze hardware and software functionality, and document performance records.
  • Audit and document cybersecurity information, utilizing an IT ticketing system for tracking.
  • Review and update information security management system processes and procedures.
  • Support periodic scanning of lab machines as required by Risk Management Framework (RMF) and review findings for mitigation.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in implementing DevSecOps, DevOps, or IT automation across multiple teams.
  • Knowledge of cloud vendor best practices, particularly in environments utilizing VMware, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Linux, and AWS.
  • Experience with private and hybrid cloud design, operation, monitoring, and deployment.
  • Ability to manage Java enterprise web services and utilize scripting languages for automation and reporting.
  • Configuration management and version control of scripts and work products.
  • Design and conduct automated unit-level functional and performance tests.
  • Respond professionally and efficiently to service requests while managing multiple tasks and projects.
  • Lead small projects to research and implement new technologies.
  • Support business development efforts by authoring proposal sections and creating process diagrams.
  • Possess effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools, Jenkins, Puppet, and Git.
  • Experience with cloud vendors' products and APIs.
  • Ability to design self-service portals for DevSecOps activities.
  • Java or C#/.Net development experience, particularly with Azure services.
  • Prior experience with Agile development processes.
  • Relevant IT or security certifications are a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science or information technology.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Certifications are a definite advantage or working towards certification(s).

Other Requirements: This position requires U.S. Citizenship status and a TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance.
