Job Overview

Position Summary:

Cole Engineering Services is in search of dedicated professionals to contribute to a dynamic team focused on orchestrating, automating, documenting, and standardizing data center architectures and implementations. The selected candidate will:

  • Facilitate the comprehensive deployment of hardware and software solutions for Department of Defense data centers.
  • Assist in the design, installation, and management of a distributed data center for the U.S. Army.
  • Employ Infrastructure as Code methodologies to streamline the deployment of systems and enhance DevOps practices for application software.
  • Collaborate within a fast-paced, diverse team across multiple concurrent projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute various tasks related to the implementation of distributed services, network design, and management within both Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and physical environments, including the installation and configuration of ESXi hosts and vCenter across multiple data centers.
  • Develop and maintain scripts across various programming languages.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Linux system administration and possess a working knowledge of Red Hat enterprise services, including OpenShift, Ansible Tower, and Single Sign-On.
  • Analyze real-world challenges and implement solutions in accordance with corporate guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Ensure system stability, accessibility, and appropriate configuration of assigned technical systems and components.
  • Oversee the monitoring, maintenance, installation, and support of networked virtual and physical machines, software applications, and peripheral devices in a large-scale environment.
  • Provide professional-level IT support, virtual environment management, and network assistance, while collaborating with software developers, integration, and test engineers on DevOps functions.
  • Exhibit self-motivation in a fast-paced setting and effectively manage a diverse group of engineers with varying skill sets and experience levels.
  • Be responsive and adaptable to the needs and requirements of clients.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the upkeep of a data center environment adhering to information assurance policies and procedures.
  • Implement software-centric DevOps functions within large-scale data center settings.
  • Evaluate hardware and software performance for optimal operation and enhancement.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within the scope of authority.
  • Document and present performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Log problems/issues using an IT ticketing system.
  • Review and revise all information security management system processes and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply cloud vendor best practices, particularly in a Linux, VMware, OpenShift, and Red Hat enterprise products environment.
  • Experience in private and hybrid cloud design, operation, monitoring, and deployment, including:
    • VMware vCenter and ESXi, maintained at the latest version.
    • Familiarity with VMware Orchestrator for automating the deployment and management of virtual machines and networks.
    • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform, including Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) On-Prem, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages for automation, administration, data collection, and reporting, including the ability to write, test, debug, deploy, and maintain scripts.
  • Capability to manage configurations, version control, and backup various scripts and work products.
  • Review and update laboratory processes, policies, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Conduct audits and report on system and performance logs.
  • Respond professionally and efficiently to service requests.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks and projects effectively.
  • Research and implement new technologies as needed.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to convey system-wide performance information using tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio.
  • Train others in similar design and administrative tasks.
  • Engage with vendors, users, customers, and developers to understand operational requirements and changes impacting development and testing activities.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of TCP/IP, switching and routing technologies, IP (IPv4 & IPv6, NAT, ACLs, DNS, DHCP), multicast protocols (PIM SM/DM/SSM), and Quality of Service (QoS).
  • Familiarity with F5 / BIG IP physical and virtual network devices.

Education and Experience:

A minimum of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science or information technology from an accredited institution is required. A minimum of five years of relevant work experience is preferred. Security+ and/or CISSP certifications are required or must be obtained within four months of hire.

Other Requirements:

This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a secret security clearance, with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance as specified in the Government's Task Order.
