Job Summary

The Safety Specialist is a critical role within NRG Energy, responsible for implementing and maintaining a comprehensive safety program that ensures the well-being of employees, contractors, and the public. This position requires a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, including OSHA and MSHA standards, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a safety-first culture and encourage open communication.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing regulatory requirements and industry best practices to ensure NRG Energy remains compliant and competitive.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, with a strong background in regulatory compliance.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in the power generation industry.
  • Master's degree in Industrial Safety or a related field.
  • SGE (Special Government Employee Program) experience.
  • VPP (Voluntary Protection Program) champion.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with occasional travel to NRG Energy facilities and regulatory agency offices. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
