Educational Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Educational Service District 123 is seeking an Educational Support Specialist to deliver personalized assistance to a designated student within our institution. This role is crucial in enhancing the academic achievements of students and addressing any challenges that may arise, with the objective of providing direct educational support to the assigned individual. The specialist will coordinate services from various agencies and organizations, offer continuous feedback and motivation, and collaborate with ESD personnel, family members, and community service providers to help the student achieve their learning objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Participate as a member of a student support team to uphold safety protocols across the program.

- Follow detailed behavior plans when working with students exhibiting significant behavioral challenges to ensure safety and consistency.

- Assist students, either individually or in small groups, with assignments as directed to reinforce learning concepts and help them meet their academic goals.

- Attend training sessions and meetings to acquire and share relevant information related to job responsibilities.

- Collaborate with educators and parents to provide insights into student progress and to adjust learning objectives as necessary.

- Document and assess student work to aid teachers in data collection.

- Prepare educational materials and manage equipment to support the effective operation of the learning environment.

- Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under the guidance of the assigned teacher to enhance student success.

- Facilitate assessments for groups of students to support the instructional process.

- Supervise students in various settings to identify needs for assistance and maintain a safe, positive learning atmosphere.

- Maintain records related to individual education plans (IEPs) to assist teachers in tracking student data.

- Provide technology-assisted learning to support effective classroom instruction.

- Report observations and incidents concerning students to the appropriate personnel.

- Respond to emergencies to ensure immediate safety and direct issues to the relevant authorities.

- Support classroom teachers in preparing and implementing educational curricula and methodologies.

- Work with individuals or small groups to implement accommodations as specified in the student’s IEP.

- Adhere to all relevant policies and maintain confidentiality.


Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

- Successful completion of the Education Training Services (ETS) ParaPro Assessment or equivalent educational credentials.

- Experience in an educational setting, particularly with students facing behavioral or emotional challenges, is preferred.


Skills and Abilities:

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing conditions.

- Problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop action plans.

- Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting and assisting students as needed.
