POSITION OVERVIEW

The Automation Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting site operations, engineering initiatives, and program management activities. This position involves the coordination of planning, resource allocation, progress tracking, and troubleshooting for technical projects.

Particularly focused on automated assembly systems, the Automation Engineer ensures compliance with the necessary technical, quality, and safety standards of the facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the development and evaluation of assembly automation systems for the medical device sector.
  • Create requirement specifications, system designs, and equipment layouts.
  • Provide engineering oversight during equipment installation and ensure a smooth transition to production within established timelines and budgets.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication through meetings and regular status updates.
  • Deliver technical guidance for validation and process testing, including hands-on equipment validation.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives on existing manufacturing equipment to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Act as the technical liaison with clients as assigned.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot issues, implement upgrades, and develop process parameters.

  • Conduct engineering analyses and design testing protocols as necessary.
  • Engage in procurement activities, monitor costs, and forecast budgets for equipment projects.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance guidelines, and training materials for equipment.
  • Perform reliability engineering within the manufacturing environment as required.
  • Contribute to process development, root cause analysis, and systematic problem-solving efforts.
  • Support all safety and quality standards set by the company.
  • May undertake additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • In-depth understanding of engineering principles, tools, and methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and control system diagrams for testing and troubleshooting automated systems.
  • Familiarity with cGMP principles, including validation and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of safety standards related to equipment and facilities.
  • General understanding of control systems and assembly processes in a manufacturing context.
  • Proficiency in 2D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical analysis tools and techniques.
  • Competence in using personal computers, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and email communication.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading projects for new products, processes, or equipment in a highly regulated manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and programming control systems, including PLCs, is preferred.
  • Technical writing experience, including the development of protocols and procedures, is preferred.
