I. POSITION SUMMARY

Overview:

The Biostatistics Center, part of the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University, operates as a premier research facility dedicated to supporting extensive multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological investigations. This center plays a pivotal role in statistical coordination for significant medical research initiatives on both national and international levels.

This role encompasses responsibilities as a Junior Windows Systems Administrator and Desktop Support Specialist. The position entails delivering comprehensive software and hardware assistance to both on-site and remote users, focusing on:

  • Expertise in Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office Suite software installation, customization, and support.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues.
  • Implementing desktop disk imaging and deployment strategies.
  • Ensuring LAN connectivity for users.

The individual will also be tasked with establishing the necessary infrastructure for applying updates and patches to desktop systems, managing these services autonomously. Additionally, the role involves overseeing other infrastructure systems, maintaining and enhancing services and production environments, and contributing to strategic planning and development efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

In this position, the successful candidate will:

  • Conduct research on emerging technologies and propose their integration within the organization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring flexibility in job functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field along with 5 years of pertinent professional experience, or a Master's degree in a related discipline with 3 years of applicable experience. The degree must be conferred by the start date of employment. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality support to users.
  • Experience in:
    • Administering and maintaining Microsoft Windows operating systems in complex environments.
    • Monitoring and ensuring the availability of infrastructure systems and servers.
    • Troubleshooting hardware for desktops, laptops, and servers.
    • Network administration, including security and backup strategies.
    • Designing and supporting infrastructure systems with minimal oversight.
    • Identifying organizational needs and developing solutions.
    • Utilizing scripting languages for automation purposes.

Compensation and Benefits:

The hiring range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Work Environment:

This is a full-time position requiring on-campus presence during standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
