Job Overview

BAE Systems is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer to join our dynamic team as a Senior Systems Safety Engineer. This role is pivotal in providing safety support for nuclear weapon systems and specialized programs within the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Program (SSP).

The Senior Systems Safety Engineer will collaborate closely with a dedicated safety team and engage regularly with customer partners, workforce members, and BAE Systems leadership to ensure the effective management and execution of a critical system safety program. Responsibilities include supporting technical meetings, preparing and delivering project status updates to senior Navy and corporate leaders, overseeing the creation of safety documentation, contributing technical insights to customer deliverables, and managing the development and upkeep of internal work instructions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and maintain a strong professional rapport with SSP customers at all levels.
  2. Work collaboratively with a team of technical experts and junior engineers/technicians.
  3. Design and implement System Safety project plans and timelines aligned with SSP customer objectives.
  4. Ensure all projects are executed in compliance with approved program management processes and contractual obligations.
  5. Keep internal program managers and technical leaders informed about technical and programmatic risks and opportunities.
  6. Manage nuclear safety program processes throughout the lifecycle.
  7. Coordinate with stakeholders, including government personnel, contractors, and vendors, to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  8. Identify hazards, assess risks, and communicate strategies for nuclear weapon system safety risk management and mitigation.
  9. Utilize Model Based Systems Engineering during various design phases to identify potential hazards early for risk mitigation.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum education and experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with 4 to 6 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree with 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills:

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation communication abilities.
  • Proficient in managing program schedules and driving performance to meet contractual deliverables.
  • Comprehensive understanding of nuclear weapon system safety and associated command policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience within the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Office and the Trident II D5 Strategic Weapon System (SWS).
  • Proven track record of growing program areas.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Model Based Systems Engineering practices.
  • Certification in Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Advanced Nuclear Weapons Surety certification.

Compensation and Benefits:

Full-Time Salary Range: $156,860. Individual salaries are determined by various factors, including business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
