Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Dean of Health Sciences and Horticulture, the primary responsibility of the full-time Veterinary Technology Instructor is to deliver comprehensive education to veterinary technology students in both theoretical and practical settings. The instructor will:
  • Teach a variety of subjects, including anatomy, physiology, radiology, nursing skills, anesthesia, surgery, and emergency medicine.
  • Utilize low-stress handling and fear-free methods in all interactions with animals.
  • Implement active learning strategies and engage with a diverse student population through a lens of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Oversee the care and management of program animals, ensuring their well-being and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Participate in curriculum development, maintain office hours, and engage in professional growth activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree or higher with two years of relevant professional experience, or an associate degree with six years of experience. A graduate of an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program and a valid California State license as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
At least six years of in-clinic experience within the last two years is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding and respect for the diverse backgrounds of community college students and staff.

Working Conditions:
The position is primarily indoors in an office environment, requiring physical abilities such as hearing, speaking, and dexterity to perform essential tasks. Regular standing, walking, and lifting of objects up to 20 lbs are expected.
