Position Overview:
As a vital member of our Emergency and Critical Care team, you will be instrumental in delivering comprehensive care to critically ill or injured animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct triage and admission of emergency cases.
- Administer nursing care to critically ill or injured patients, ensuring thorough evaluation and monitoring.
- Exhibit expertise in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs).
- Perform in-house laboratory diagnostics.
- Efficiently place intravenous (IV) catheters.
- Carry out detailed patient rounds with accuracy.
- Safely manage and restrain anxious or distressed patients.
- Record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR), while maintaining accurate medical records.
- Identify situations that require immediate veterinary intervention.
- Serve as an advocate for both patients and their owners.
- High school diploma.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or 3 years of consecutive experience as a Veterinary Assistant in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit (ER/CCU) setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, demonstrating professionalism and discretion.
- Proficient in mathematical calculations for medication dosages, CRIs, and financial estimates.
- Possess or be able to obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held).
- Full-time position.
- 4/10 work schedule.
- Flexibility required, including availability on some holidays.
- $40.00 hourly rate plus shift differentials.
