Position Overview:


Fairview Health Services is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our dedicated team. This role is essential in delivering high-quality laboratory services in a dynamic healthcare setting.

This position operates on a part-time basis, requiring 48 hours every two weeks during the Night shift, specifically from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, including alternating weekends and rotating holidays.


The Night shift offers a unique opportunity to enhance your expertise with more intricate testing procedures, enjoy the advantages of autonomous work, and receive a competitive hourly wage.

Eligible candidates may also receive a shift incentive bonus of up to $2,000, distributed biannually (pro-rated based on FTE).
We provide a generous hourly shift differential for all hours worked.

The MHealth Fairview Ridges Laboratory is responsible for a wide range of clinical services, including hematology, chemistry, blood gas analysis, coagulation studies, urinalysis, transfusion medicine, and blood collection and processing.

Fairview Ridges Hospital caters to a diverse patient population, encompassing both pediatric and adult care, and hosts the busiest Emergency Department within the network.

Our laboratory team comprises approximately 90 professionals, including five pathologists, and operates 24/7 to meet the needs of our patients.

Key Responsibilities:


The Clinical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in delivering proficient and professional laboratory services to a diverse patient population within an integrated healthcare framework.

The technician will conduct waived, moderate, or high complexity testing, analyze data, and apply knowledge of technical and instrumental factors that may influence testing outcomes while adhering to quality control protocols.

This role may also involve specimen collection, secure handling of samples, ensuring efficient workflow, and scheduling tests while providing results as necessary.

The technician will work independently under general supervision.

Responsibilities include:
  • Following established protocols for specimen collection, testing, and result reporting.
  • Collecting and processing biological specimens with precision, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Conducting testing analysis and verifying assay/analyzer performance according to SOP efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Engaging in various laboratory disciplines, including Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Serology, Immunology, Immunohematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Phlebotomy.
  • Documenting and communicating laboratory test results accurately in accordance with SOP.
  • Performing and documenting maintenance tasks while ensuring adequate supply levels.
  • Seeking assistance appropriately for complex or unusual situations.

Consistently uphold laboratory customer service standards, which include maintaining confidentiality, fostering teamwork, and ensuring effective communication and conflict resolution.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Scheduling tests and procedures in accordance with SOPs.
  • Verifying patient demographic and billing information for laboratory services.
  • Explaining testing procedures to patients in a manner that fosters confidence and alleviates anxiety.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • Eligibility to work in a complex laboratory setting as mandated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
  • Certification from a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory organization such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT. If not certified upon hire, certification must be obtained within 12 months.

Preferred:
  • One year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technician in an integrated healthcare environment.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).

Other Required Skills:
  • Proficient phlebotomy skills.
