Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated professional to spearhead our second line of defense (2LoD) Risk Function.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be operating at a Chief Risk Officer level within a regulated financial services organization. They will possess a robust track record in overseeing globally distributed teams that focus on both financial (capital, liquidity, etc.) and non-financial (cybersecurity, operational, conduct, regulatory, etc.) risk initiatives, delivering insightful data-driven analyses that align risk management and compliance with business expansion and innovation.

In this capacity, you will lead a team responsible for risk oversight in payments, insurance, and lending sectors on a global scale.

Collaboration is key; you will work closely with Compliance and Business partners to shape the future of Amazon's risk and compliance frameworks, designing and implementing premier solutions to assess, monitor, and mitigate risks, thereby advancing Amazon's mission to be "Earth's most customer-centric company." This pivotal role demands strong ownership, intellectual adaptability, and sound, data-informed business judgment.

Core Duties

- Develop and execute risk assessment and mitigation strategies to provide actionable insights on emerging risks and new product developments.
- Engage proactively with business leaders to offer guidance and influence product design.
- Represent risk management initiatives during audits and examinations, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to inquiries.
- Create detailed, data-supported narratives to inform senior management about risk levels, mitigations, and impacts.
- Oversee the daily operations of risk management programs in your region, including policy documentation and regular reporting.
- Take ownership of operational risk initiatives, including business continuity and third-party risk management.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of leading risk and control principles, along with regulatory expectations, to embed governance processes for ongoing gap analysis.
- Effectively cultivate relationships with stakeholders across business, technology, legal, compliance, and operations teams to design and implement a risk management roadmap.
- Establish and periodically review communication strategies to ensure stakeholder feedback is integrated.
- Build and nurture a team of subject matter experts in various risk management domains, setting and executing individualized coaching and development plans, as well as managing team objectives aligned with enterprise goals.

Qualifications

- Currently operating at a Chief Risk Officer level or previously approved for risk management roles by a Central Bank Regulator.
- 15+ years of experience in a 2LoD risk management function within a financial institution, licensed money transmitter, payments, lending, or insurance sector.
- 5+ years of experience leading a 2LoD risk management function.
- Proven subject matter expertise in delivering advisory services and conducting risk assessments in both financial and non-financial risk categories.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and present to senior management while interacting with various employee levels to gather and convey information.
- Demonstrated experience in navigating ambiguity with a strong bias for action.
- 5+ years of experience leading globally dispersed risk management teams.
- Willingness to travel internationally 3-5 times per year.

Preferred Qualifications

- Graduate degree with a focus on Risk Management.
- Professional certification in Risk Management and/or Compliance.
