Reports to: Sports Program Coordinator

Supervises: Program games

Compensation: $13-$15/hour

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Youth Basketball Program Coordinator operates under the guidance and overall supervision of the Sports Program Coordinators and Recreation Directors. This coed basketball initiative for K-2nd Grade is designed to foster teamwork and sportsmanship among young athletes. Weekly hours may fluctuate based on the season and league activities. The Coordinator should have a solid understanding of basketball regulations and demonstrate effective communication skills with coaches, players, officials, and spectators. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate closely with recreation program coordinators.
  • Attend all scheduled games, arriving 30 minutes before the start time.
  • Engage positively with both youth and adult participants.
  • Oversee staff assigned by the league coordinator, including scorekeepers and referees.
  • Supervise and officiate assigned league games, providing necessary reports to the coordinator.
  • Assist coordinators in training youth staff members.
  • Support coaches' meetings and any required league preparations.
  • Submit hours worked by supervised staff.
  • Work on Saturdays and weeknights as needed.
  • Manage setup, takedown, and cleanup of facilities following each game day.
  • Serve as a substitute supervisor for other programs within the recreation department.
  • Assist with all other related tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent public relations and customer service abilities.
  • Capability to work effectively with individuals of all ages.
  • Proficiency in officiating basketball games.
  • Understanding of basic safety protocols and procedures.
  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and the community.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Previous experience in a supervisory role is preferred but not mandatory.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Moderate physical activity, including the ability to lift between 15 to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires walking, standing, lifting, and other physical activities.
  • Availability to work evenings and/or Saturdays.
