Job Overview

Position Title: Basketball Game Official

Reports To: Program Supervisor/Coordinator

Compensation: Starting at $11.00/hour, varies based on assigned league

Employment Type: Part-time, non-exempt/non-benefitted

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Basketball Game Official operates under the guidance and oversight of the Basketball Supervisor, Program Coordinators, and the Recreation Director. This role is part-time and seasonal, with weekly hours ranging from 4 to 8, contingent upon the league schedule. Candidates should possess a fundamental understanding of basketball rules and skills. Minimum age requirement is 14 years.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Basketball Supervisor to ensure smooth operations.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions prior to the commencement of the season.
  • Effectively communicate with players, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Officiate basketball matches with fairness and integrity.
  • Attend all scheduled games as assigned.
  • Assist in the setup, takedown, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

AGE: Must be at least 14 years old.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong communication skills with participants, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to officiate basketball games competently.

EXPERIENCE

Prior experience as a referee is preferred but not mandatory. A solid understanding of basketball rules and skills is essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Moderate physical activity, including the ability to lift between 15 to 50 pounds.
  • Position involves walking, standing, and other physical activities.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
