Summary

The Student Assistance Program is a school-based initiative aimed at preventing and intervening in youth substance abuse issues. The Clinical Manager plays a vital role in supporting the SAP Program and its counselors, ensuring compliance with established standards and guidelines for mental health professionals. The focus is on delivering comprehensive prevention strategies, meeting clinical benchmarks for quality care, and facilitating ongoing training for staff. Responsibilities include case consultation, clinical documentation review, and providing support to counselors in their respective locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency as a SAP counselor, offering additional support to school sites as necessary.
  • Mentor and supervise SAP counselors in developing effective clinical skills and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Act as a mental health and substance abuse consultant for SAP counselors.
  • Review case files to ensure readiness for audits and maintain high standards of care.
  • Oversee electronic health records to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure timely input of data and completion of workplan tasks by staff.
  • Familiarize with and adhere to Prevention Guidelines.
  • Support workplan initiatives, including the collection of Needs Assessment Data.
  • Monitor and document counselor performance in relation to established goals.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and community professionals to enhance program offerings.
  • Collect and report outcome data, preparing monthly and quarterly reports for stakeholders.
  • Engage in staff development and training opportunities.
  • Participate in monthly peer consultation meetings.

Educational Qualifications

A master's degree in social work or mental health counseling from an accredited institution, with licensure in New York (LCSW, LMHC, LMSW) is required.

Experience Requirements

A minimum of three years of post-master's professional experience in mental health or substance abuse counseling, specifically working with individuals aged 12 to 21.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of counseling principles, practices, and clinical techniques, particularly in substance abuse and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, behavior, and treatment methodologies.
  • Familiarity with services provided by mental health and substance abuse clinics.
  • Understanding of public and private community agency services, especially for adolescents.
  • Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with staff, clients, and community providers.
  • Proficient in preparing detailed case records and making informed decisions based on analysis.

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully pass background checks by relevant state agencies.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Independent auto insurance with minimum liability coverage.
  • Expected to work between 35 and 40 hours per week, aligning with job requirements.
  • This position may require occasional evening and weekend work.

Physical Requirements

  • The role involves significant walking and driving, with the potential for lifting up to 20 pounds.
