Job Summary

Nashville General Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Financial Coordinator to join our Patient Access team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing patients with a positive financial experience by helping them navigate and understand their insurance benefits and potential financial liability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reconcile payments daily and prepare deposits to ensure timely availability.
  • Set up patients on payment plans as needed, partnering with billing vendors to ensure self-pay patients make arrangements prior to services.
  • Pre-register high-dollar accounts to facilitate payment arrangements and obtain payment prior to service.
  • Communicate with patients to review financial obligations pre- or post-service.
  • Provide oversight and training on cash box management and logging.
  • Collaborate with the business office and leadership to help patients and families understand bills and financial obligations.
  • Register and admit patients when other registration areas are delayed.
  • Perform status changes and review daily admissions for self-pay patients.
  • Calculate and collect up-front payments for all patients.
  • Assist in data gathering for financial reporting.
  • Work with QA coordinators and team leads to address insurance plan updates and status changes.
  • Set up arrangements for patients to pay off outstanding balances.
  • Create detailed notes in the system to reflect all actions performed on an account.
  • Assist the Revenue Cycle in reducing unbilled accounts by working assigned queues and tasks.
  • Provide backup support to registration as needed.
  • Communicate with patients and visitors who speak foreign languages, providing a private space for translation.

  • Use AIDET in all patient interactions.
  • Support co-workers and engage in positive interactions.
  • Communicate professionally and timely with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate friendliness by smiling and making eye contact when greeting customers.
  • Provide helpful assistance in anticipating and responding to customer needs.
  • Collaborate with customers to plan and make decisions that result in optimal solutions.
  • Remain calm under pressure and effectively handle difficult situations.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Minimum associate's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field, or 5+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Two (2) years of Patient Access experience in Registration, Scheduling, Billing, or Revenue Cycle.
  • Functional knowledge of personal computers, basic PC application programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office.
  • Medical database and medical terminology knowledge.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish).
