Position Overview

Department Summary: The Commonpoint Resettlement & Integration (R&I) Department is dedicated to providing essential services for refugee and humanitarian migrant populations, focusing on initial resettlement, social integration, and employment assistance.

Role Summary: The Coordinator of Youth Programs is responsible for delivering integration and social inclusion services to eligible youth from refugee backgrounds, including Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders, asylees, and humanitarian parolees. This role emphasizes the design and execution of youth programming that fosters comprehensive integration for refugee youth of diverse nationalities. The position reports to the Family Integration Program Manager and fluency in one or more refugee languages is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive extensive training on the Preferred Communities program and other relevant resettlement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Family Integration Program Manager to conduct assessments that identify the primary challenges and needs of newly arrived refugee youth, informing the development of group programming and activities.
  • Create culturally and linguistically appropriate, client-focused educational resources and curricula for group services, revising existing materials as necessary.
  • Facilitate regular workshops and group meetings for refugee youth participants.
  • Plan and lead field trips to enhance experiential learning opportunities.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to identify eligible refugee youth through connections with community organizations, resettlement agencies, and cultural institutions.
  • Perform initial screenings to determine eligibility for group and individual services.
  • Conduct intake assessments for eligible clients and develop personalized self-sufficiency plans with youth participants.
  • Provide support and communication to the parents of enrolled youth as needed.
  • Build relationships with local educational institutions to assist in the enrollment and integration of refugee students.
  • Support R&I Case Managers in navigating educational systems and advocating for necessary services.
  • Conduct community outreach to connect newly arrived refugee youth with available resources.
  • Act as a liaison with other Commonpoint divisions and programs that cater to youth.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Services team to enhance support for youth participants through donations and volunteer engagement.
  • Maintain accurate case files for each client, ensuring confidentiality and timely documentation.
  • Supervise volunteer interns as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages is strongly preferred: Dari, Pashto, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Burmese, Arabic, French, or Haitian Creole.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Previous experience in refugee resettlement, social services, or immigration law is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with low-income, limited English proficient, and vulnerable immigrant populations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with social service organizations in New York City is beneficial.
  • Public speaking and group facilitation experience is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple urgent projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
