PROGRAM DESIGN: Roads to Success Inc. orchestrates a diverse array of youth initiatives, including after-school programs, summer camps, retreats, conferences, and seasonal employment opportunities, impacting thousands of young individuals across NYC annually. We prioritize the youth development framework of the Circle of Courage in all our initiatives, fostering an atmosphere of Belonging, where youth can cultivate their Independence, discover and hone their Mastery skills, and practice Generosity within their communities. Central to our initiatives are staff training strategies that empower our young professionals to forge profoundly impactful relationships with the youth in their care, whom we refer to as Our Future Leaders.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Group Leader collaborates with participants to nurture a positive community atmosphere and ensure our objectives are recognized within our programs. Group Leaders are expected to foster meaningful connections and serve as positive role models for our future leaders.

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:

  • Supervisor: Program Director
  • Max Hours: 25 per week
  • Days: 5 per week, Monday – Friday
  • Compensation: $17 – $18 per hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participant Oversight:

  • Oversee all scheduled activities and uphold the Zero Impact policy, ensuring constant supervision of program participants during operations across all locations, including off-site excursions.

Activity Facilitation:

  • Assist educators and activity specialists in delivering lessons/activities by actively engaging and encouraging participant involvement.
  • Establish and maintain a supportive and secure environment by ensuring activity spaces are organized and clean.
  • Design and implement captivating academic enrichment and recreational activities that integrate elements of literacy, STEM, the creative arts, youth development, and team building.

Youth Development:

  • Apply principles of positive youth development through effective behavior management and discipline techniques that promote social, emotional, and cognitive growth, enhancing self-esteem and responsibility among all participants.
  • Foster positive relationships with participants and serve as a role model.

Professional Growth:

  • Engage in meetings and workshops aimed at enhancing professional skills, as directed by the Program Director or Senior Program Director, including a minimum of 15 hours of training annually.
  • Collaborate with the program director, staff developers, and educational specialists to advance professional skills.
  • Utilize skills and knowledge gained from training to elevate program quality.

Program Protocols and Safety:

  • Comply with site-specific guidelines and the program staff manual, which includes staff and program-specific requirements as outlined by the NYS Child School Aged Child Care (SACC) Programs regulation, prioritizing quality service and the safety of all children.
  • Alert supervisors to any behaviors that hinder the provision of quality services and the safety of participants and staff, including proactively reporting incidents involving physical injury or emotional/social harm.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth in educational or camp settings.
  • Ability to lead and engage in group sports and recreational activities.
  • Effective and respectful communication skills with all community members, including modeling and facilitating positive conflict resolution.
  • Capacity to serve as a mentor and resource for students, staff, and families while promoting cultural inclusiveness.
  • Availability to work part-time during school days and full-time during non-school days (school holidays and summer).
