Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Heart Line serves as a statewide support hotline dedicated to assisting young adults who have been affected by the child welfare system in New York State. This initiative is designed to offer these individuals direct access to peers with lived experiences, providing them with empathetic guidance and connecting them to essential resources. The Youth Support Communication Specialist will play a pivotal role in listening to and supporting young adult callers, while also facilitating compassionate connections to various resources. This role is primarily remote, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and collaborative teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize personal experience within youth-serving systems to provide relevant support.
  • Exhibit empathetic and patient communication skills over the phone.
  • Demonstrate creativity and compassion in interactions with callers.
  • Maintain a high level of computer proficiency.
  • Engage in peer support and tele-support services effectively.
  • Document interactions and support provided with accuracy.
  • Understand and address the challenges faced by youth impacted by the child welfare system.
  • Be knowledgeable about issues affecting Black and Latino adolescents.
  • Work collaboratively with team members while also being able to operate independently.
  • Build strong relationships with callers and colleagues alike.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills in all interactions.
  • Deliver services with integrity and empathy.
