Job Summary

The Recreation and Life Skills Specialist will be responsible for creating and implementing individual and group recreation and skill development experiences for youth placed in our care. This role requires a strong understanding of the needs of at-risk youth and the ability to provide guidance, training, and consultation to staff in the development and provision of educational workshops, recreational programming, and skill-building activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recreation and life skills programs that promote independent living skills and meet the needs of at-risk youth.
  • Provide guidance, training, and consultation to staff on the development and provision of educational workshops, recreational programming, and skill-building activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to youth development.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in recreation and life skills programming and incorporate new ideas and approaches into program development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with at-risk youth, leading recreation and/or afterschool programs that promote independent living skills.
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) group facilitation and/or curriculum development.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to ensure robust programming is carried out seven days a week.
