Job OverviewPosition Summary:

The Braveheart Diversion Advocacy Program (BDAP) is a peer-driven initiative designed for young adults who have experienced the Juvenile Justice system in Westchester County. This program aims to provide a supportive environment where participants can feel motivated, informed, and engaged in their personal development and future aspirations, with the goal of avoiding further systemic involvement.

The BDAP Coordinator will be an individual with firsthand experience in youth-serving systems, responsible for mentoring and guiding young adults through group discussions, one-on-one mentoring sessions, and personalized case planning. By leveraging their own lived experiences alongside professional training and system knowledge, the BDAP Coordinator will assist participants in navigating various systems and resources, fostering positive relationships, and building resilience while addressing the systemic and environmental challenges within child welfare, juvenile justice, and mental health frameworks.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Personal lived experience within the Child Welfare and/or Juvenile Justice system is essential, along with familiarity with educational, employment, and housing resources in New York State.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.
  • Ability to adapt engagement methods using video conferencing tools when necessary.
  • Strong organizational, verbal communication, and group facilitation skills are crucial.
  • Capability to efficiently manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating community events is necessary.
  • Ability to navigate public transportation and community resources effectively.
  • Understanding of cultural, racial, and social issues affecting adolescents of color is important.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ a multicultural approach when working with diverse youth populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently, while actively engaging in supervision.
  • Commitment to embodying Braveheart values and methodologies.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective relationships with both mentors and mentees, as well as foster strong partnerships with professionals.
  • Willingness to engage in public speaking and facilitate group discussions and training sessions.
  • Ability to maintain and organize progress notes and data regarding mentees.

Work Schedule: Part-Time, 17 hours per week
