Position Overview:


Merrick & Company's High Performance Facilities (HPF) division is in search of a seasoned Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to spearhead HVAC and Plumbing design initiatives for a diverse array of national defense projects.

Key Responsibilities:
The Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for a variety of critical mission projects.

Project Responsibilities Include:


Conducting and coordinating detailed phases of HVAC and Plumbing design, including calculations, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and layouts of mechanical equipment along with associated duct and piping systems.

Developing mechanical construction specifications, testing protocols, and system design documentation.


Evaluating and applying standard techniques and criteria to execute tasks for projects with simpler features, while also collaborating to adapt methods for more complex assignments.

Performing quality assurance checks on engineering designs.

Assisting in new project proposals by providing mechanical discipline scopes, budget forecasts, and timelines.

Engaging with Federal, State, and Local government clients to present design concepts.


The Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role within a multidisciplinary team of architects and engineers, generating comprehensive project design packages, including drawings, specifications, and calculations.

This position entails leadership responsibilities, including task delegation and coordination with engineers, designers, and administrative personnel. Occasional travel to various project sites may be necessary.

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:
A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program is mandatory. Engineering Technology degrees will not be accepted.

A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience is required.

A Professional Engineer (PE) License is essential.

Candidates must be able and willing to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.

Proven experience in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems design and related engineering calculations (e.g., air-handling systems, laboratory exhaust systems, duct systems, hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping, domestic water and wastewater systems, steam systems, and mechanical controls).

Experience in sizing and selecting HVAC and plumbing/piping equipment (e.g., air-handling units, fans, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, coils, filtration systems, dampers, valves, and controls).

Proficiency in drafting and editing mechanical construction specifications.


Familiarity with HVAC load and design software such as Trane Trace; knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is preferred.

Understanding of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA standards is required.

Knowledge of IMC, IPC, and IBC codes is necessary.

U.S. Citizenship is required for client projects.

Desired Qualifications:
Possession of a current passport.

Active Department of Defense (DOD) clearance.

LEED or Green Globes certification.
