We provide over 180 integrated programs across various sectors, including Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Assistance. Each year, we reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including nearly 13,000 youth, representing a diverse array of New Yorkers.

Program Overview: The School-Based Early Support Initiative is a collaborative effort with ACS aimed at empowering families and enhancing children's well-being within educational settings. This initiative offers a variety of services and support directly accessible to families through partnerships with local educational institutions.

Role: Community Engagement Specialist

Reporting To: School Outreach Liaison

Location: Hybrid Remote

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute outreach initiatives (school events, informational sessions, promotional materials) to foster connections with diverse families.
  • Identify families in need and provide education to school personnel regarding the program.
  • Design and implement engaging school-based initiatives (workshops, cultural celebrations, youth activities) centered on parenting skills, financial literacy, social-emotional learning, and diversity appreciation.
  • Collaborate with educational teams to align the program with preventive strategies.
  • Maintain regular communication with stakeholders to keep them informed.
  • Establish strong relationships with families from various backgrounds.
  • Encourage inclusivity and accessibility within the program.
  • Deliver School-Based Early Support services to families for a duration of 6-12 months, addressing challenges and nurturing healthy family dynamics for children's academic success.
  • Conduct regular casework interactions with families, adhering to ACS standards.
  • Ensure that documentation for families participating in the community pathway or school-based offerings is securely maintained offline, outside of child welfare systems.
  • Connect families with a comprehensive range of services (programs, schools, community organizations) and advocate for their needs with both governmental and private service providers.
  • Support families' involvement in their children's education and assist them in meeting fundamental needs (income, food, housing, transportation) while accessing vital community services.
  • Build trusting relationships and serve as a client advocate in various environments (schools, healthcare) to empower clients and link them with necessary resources.
  • Adhere to ACS and program standards to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Co-facilitate evidence-based parent/caregiver support groups utilizing the Triple P model, equipping parents with positive strategies to manage challenging behaviors and strengthen relationships with their children. Continuous monitoring ensures adherence to established standards.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), or Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with families and children in community settings.

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating respect, compassion, and empathy towards clients.
  • Exceptional writing abilities for clear, concise, and professional documentation, reports, and communication with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with relevant databases and case management systems is a plus.
  • Commitment to cultural competency and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Strong understanding of student support services, including IEPs, 504 plans, and SEL programs.

Compensation: $45,000-$48,000 annually. The offered salary will be determined based on various factors unique to each program and candidate, including experience, education, budget considerations, internal equity, skills, and other relevant factors.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
