CAMBA serves a diverse array of New Yorkers, from new mothers in underserved neighborhoods to job seekers across the city.

More than half of our clientele comprises immigrants and refugees from around the world.

Over 85% of the families we assist live in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by approximately 1.7 million New Yorkers today.


Youth Enrichment Services (YES) engages school-aged youth aged 12 to 21 in programs and supportive services aimed at transforming the culture surrounding violence and promoting positive youth development.

YES is implemented in and around educational institutions located in areas with high rates of community violence.

YES staff actively seek to recruit and engage youth who are at risk of system involvement or have experienced community violence.


Role Overview:
Community Engagement Specialist

Supervision:
Reports to the Assistant Program Director

Responsibilities:
Conduct outreach and promote the program within the educational environment.

Interact with students during arrival, lunch breaks, and dismissal to foster relationships.


Maintain a visible presence around the school and on common routes to public transportation during dismissal hours, specifically from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.

Manage conflict resolution among students, engage in mediation and violence interruption activities, and perform crisis intervention as necessary.


Collaborate with school administrators, in-school program staff, and local law enforcement to identify areas around the school where violence is prevalent.

Assist in coordinating responses to conflicts that arise in and around the educational setting.

Develop marketing materials and promote the program within the school community.

Participate in and help facilitate social and peer support events.

Review documentation to establish clients' eligibility for the program and make necessary file copies.

Assist clients in completing all required intake applications and forms, and as needed, help with applications for benefits and entitlements.

Create and maintain comprehensive client files.

Conduct initial assessments of clients and their families, as well as periodic reassessments.

Follow up with clients and referral organizations regarding client engagement and progress.


Work collaboratively with clients to overcome barriers to their goals and assist them in advocating for themselves towards self-sufficiency.

Recommend and implement strategies to encourage clients' active participation in this process.

Act as a liaison and advocate for clients with external organizations regarding matters such as education, healthcare, and housing.


Monitor clients' progress towards their goals through regular communication and document updates via progress notes.


Recommend case closures for clients who have achieved their primary goals and maintained stability, or for those who are no longer engaged in the process, or have become ineligible for services.



Provide all necessary information for reporting purposes.

Conduct periodic reassessments as needed.

Schedule appointments for clients with referral organizations as required.

Ensure the safe escort of clients to and from educational settings as needed.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) with one year of relevant experience, or

Associate's degree (A.S.) with two years of relevant experience, or

High School Diploma or HSE with three years of relevant experience.

Additional Requirements:
Relevant experience as outlined above, preferably in a mid-sized organization (250+ employees).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

In-depth knowledge of the local community.


Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed, and readiness for diverse outdoor weather conditions during work hours.


Compensation:
$27.47/hour


Salary ranges represent the low and high end for the position and program, with the offered salary based on various factors unique to each program and candidate.


Employment Status:
Temporary Full-time (35 hours per week)
