Our mission is to ensure that all individuals, especially children and families, have access to essential resources and support systems necessary for their growth and success. We provide over 180 integrated programs across various sectors, including Education, Family Support, Employment Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Assistance, reaching over 73,000 individuals annually.

Youth Enrichment Services (YES) focuses on empowering youth aged 12 to 21 through transformative programming and supportive services aimed at reducing violence and promoting positive development. Our initiatives are strategically implemented in schools located in areas with high rates of community violence, actively engaging youth who are at risk of involvement with the justice system or have been affected by violence.

Role: Community Engagement Specialist

Reporting To: Assistant Program Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach and promote the program within educational institutions.
  • Build rapport with students during key times such as arrival, lunch, and dismissal.
  • Maintain a visible presence in and around the school to foster safety and support.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution among students and engage in mediation and crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Collaborate with school officials and local law enforcement to identify areas prone to violence.
  • Assist in organizing responses to incidents occurring within the school environment.
  • Develop promotional materials to enhance program visibility within the school community.
  • Participate in and support social and peer support activities.
  • Review documentation to verify client eligibility for services and maintain accurate records.
  • Guide clients through the intake process and assist with applications for benefits.
  • Establish and manage client files effectively.
  • Conduct initial assessments and periodic evaluations of clients and their families.
  • Follow up with clients and referral organizations to monitor progress.
  • Support clients in overcoming barriers to achieving their goals and advocate for their needs.
  • Implement strategies to encourage client participation in services.
  • Act as a liaison for clients with external organizations regarding education, healthcare, and housing.
  • Track client progress towards their objectives through regular communication and documentation.
  • Provide necessary information for reporting purposes.
  • Conduct periodic reassessments as required.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments with referral organizations.
  • Ensure the safe transportation of clients to and from school when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and one year of related experience, or
  • Associate's degree with two years of relevant experience, or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with three years of applicable experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in a similar role, preferably within a mid-sized organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of the local community.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and adapt to various weather conditions.

Compensation: $27.47/hour
Salary may vary based on experience, education, and other relevant factors.

Status: Temporary Full-time (35 hours per week)
