Key Responsibilities:


Oversee the management of essential operational functions and provide effective leadership and administration for a portfolio of critical data centers and a 24/7 engineering team. The primary goal is to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of critical engineering infrastructure, systems, and equipment in a cost-effective manner.

Act as a subject matter expert in various critical environment electrical and mechanical systems, infrastructure, and operational practices, ensuring professionalism while meeting customer needs and striving for 100% uptime.

Safeguard and enhance the value of company assets, ensuring that critical engineering systems perform their intended functions reliably.

The role may involve hands-on operations, particularly during system troubleshooting.

Strong formal conduct of operations skills, technical expertise, personal accountability, and flawless execution of work activities are essential in this highly critical environment, where exceptional customer satisfaction is paramount.

Supervise and manage the critical operations function, ensuring that all assigned duties are executed effectively through site inspections, individual meetings, team discussions, and departmental gatherings.

Ensure that vendor maintenance is conducted with high-quality workmanship and that vendor personnel are adequately trained.

Responsible for the oversight of the overall operation, maintenance, and modification of all critical environment building systems, including: Mechanical (such as ACMV, computer room air conditioners, chillers, and hydraulic systems), Electrical (including HT switchgear, UPS, DC battery systems, PDU, HT generators, and transfer switches), cabling (data and voice, broadband), fire detection and suppression, life safety, lighting, building management systems, and detection systems (including fire alarm, duress, card access, CCTV).

Possess strong skills and experience in raised floor critical operating environments and associated best practices.
Accountable for the proper functioning of the monitoring center, which serves as the nerve center of the data center.

Ensure the team executes all tasks professionally, including monitoring of the building management system, incident management (which involves escalation, reporting, investigation, conducting root cause analysis, and remediation/rectification until incident closure), and work order management.

Ensure compliance with customer service level agreements at all times, covering aspects such as incident escalation to the customer within 15 minutes of reporting to the monitoring center and issuing written incident reports within 24 hours.

Oversee the engineering team's implementation of Change Control Applications or work method statements, including LOTO (lock out/tag out) as required under the Change Management Workflow Process for assigned facilities and systems.

Identify appropriate maintenance strategies for each facility and incorporate these objectives into a documented plan that includes preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance procedures for the critical operations team to implement.

Review and approve all SOPs and ERPs proposed by the respective critical operations Lead Engineers, ensuring the engineering team has a comprehensive understanding of the critical systems/facilities SOPs and ERPs.

Develop and implement a safety plan for the engineering team, including the use of appropriate PPE for various tasks, daily toolbox meetings, work risk management, and enhancement plans.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory laws and guidelines related to the operation of the building's infrastructure and work deliveries.

Alert your reporting manager or senior management of any discrepancies.

Collaborate with the HSE manager to identify safety hazards within the building and incorporate remediation strategies to ensure a safe working environment for staff and occupants.

Develop routine annual maintenance plans and capital plans, including planning for infrastructure upgrades, equipment replacements, and building modifications to maintain the building's future capabilities.

Provide technical input and support for facility projects and modifications, including construction support, commissioning, and final acceptance as applicable.

Maintain all records and compliance documentation for operational functions, ensuring they are up to date, including building drawings and single-line diagrams, as well as documentation required for regulatory compliance with state or local laws.

Ensure maintenance contracts are established for regular maintenance of all engineering services, soft services, EHS, and security systems. Establish contracts with vendors if not already in place, ensuring OEMs are employed for critical system maintenance.


Maintain effective communication with the operations team, customers, and vendors.

Ensure timely submission of relevant reports on an agreed schedule, such as monthly, as required under the company's MSA with customers.

Familiarize yourself with the company's contracted SLAs with customers and ensure full compliance at all times.

Ensure that programs and procedures are in place to effectively and consistently train and qualify vendors for their assigned facilities and associated work in the company's critical environment.

Ensure that the security team and engineering team maintain records of building rounds and readings, as well as all engineering logs and data sheets.

Understand the engineering design and operational aspects of the portfolio's critical facilities, systems, equipment, and critical lines of business.

Identify and understand any shortcomings in critical facility and system operations.
Manage the planning, organization, and controls for the site engineering teams under your responsibility. Formally supervise individual employees and/or subordinate supervisors within your function. Identify training needs, track performance, coach, and motivate direct reports. Responsible for disciplinary actions and performance evaluations of the critical operations team under your supervision.
Be prepared to operate after office hours and on public holidays, being available on-call 24/7. In emergency situations, return to the data center to conduct fault investigations.

Qualifications:


Professional Engineering Diploma in an Engineering field (Mechanical or Electrical) with a minimum of relevant work experience in a data center environment or high-tech factory/plant (e.g., semiconductor) managing mission-critical facilities, including at least 5 years of managerial experience. Candidates with additional professional certifications or postgraduate diplomas/master's degrees in management studies, such as an MBA, will have an advantage. OR a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant work experience in a data center environment or high-tech factory/plant (e.g., semiconductor) managing mission-critical facilities, including at least 5 years of managerial experience.
Proficient in English across all communication mediums, with the ability to write and review high-quality detailed reports of various kinds.

Capable of chairing meetings and delivering presentations to customers, whether on the phone or in person, and conducting training sessions for internal staff.

Strong knowledge of all laws governing building management and maintenance, including building safety, emergency evacuation, and environmental protection.
A valid Electrical switching certificate and/or license (Chargeman) for 33kV HT electrical systems is advantageous.

Possess good technical knowledge with hands-on experience and understanding of critical data center systems, including HVAC, standby emergency power, uninterruptible power supplies, and associated infrastructure.

Requires a solid understanding of financial terms and principles, forecasting, and budget development.
Proficient in computer applications and software, including commercial computerized maintenance management systems, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
