Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Arkansasearlychildhood. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, delivering, and cleaning up from breakfast and lunch each day, while maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen in compliance with health department standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver nutritious meals to students, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in the overall duties required to maintain an effective and efficient food preparation facility.
  • Participate in grantee monitoring visits and possess knowledge of the principles and practices of the CACFP program guidelines.
  • Calculate and determine the required amount of milk to be served, including special dietary needs.
  • Complete required logs and records for Kitchen Supervisor to complete daily production reports.

Program Management:

  • Deliver meals to the classroom ready for individual meal service and suitable for the children's age and development.
  • Assist the Kitchen Assistant I in preparation and serving of USDA reimbursable meals.
  • Be responsible for food receiving and storage assigned by the Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Perform functions of other nutritional services positions, as requested by supervisor for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within food and nutrition services operations.
  • Gather supplies from storeroom, freezer, or refrigerator and deliver to designated work area.
  • Label and date food items, prior to proper storage.
  • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules as directed.
  • Ensure every work area is well-stocked to allow for expedient and efficient operation.
  • Gather inventory on food, condiments, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements.

Health and Safety:

  • Have knowledge of any special diet needs in each classroom.
  • Be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in both the kitchen and storage areas.
  • Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments.
  • Clean utensils, equipment, and storage, food preparation, and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining required sanitary conditions.
  • Perform janitorial duties such as cleaning workstations, emptying the trash, mopping up spills during your shift, when needed.
  • Check equipment to make sure it maintains safety and sanitation requirements and report needed repairs to Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Wear proper clothing, shoes, and hair restraints according to Health Department Standards.
  • Maintain appropriate personal health and hygiene, and continuously practice sanitary food handling procedures.
  • Monitor and chart refrigerator temperature.
  • Participate in all emergency drills and environmental safety activities.

Intentional Professional Growth:

  • Cooperate with and participate in nutrition education activities.
  • Attend grantee-sponsored trainings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Participate in general staff meetings and other agency meetings as required.
  • Train in the daily production record, the ordering process, and inventory.

  • Give strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills as they work with the rest of the staff.
  • Be willing to be a team player and contribute to the department individually and as a whole.
  • Be able to work in a cooperative manner with other staff members, students, parents, and funding agency personnel.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and always represent the school in a positive manner.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to understand and follow multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate detailed information accurately and effectively to varied individuals and groups and verify comprehension.
  • Physical requirements must be able to: lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance, move freely around the building, stoop, bend, and reach, standing for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting.
  • Background clearance from the Arkansas State Police.
  • Pass a drug screen.
  • Background clearance from the Central Registries for Child and Adult Abuse and Maltreatment.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that meets the minimum requirements will be accepted.
