Job Overview

The Systems Quality Assurance Engineer at Boyd Company is tasked with guaranteeing that our products surpass customer expectations and specifications. This role encompasses comprehensive oversight of product quality and acts as the primary liaison for all customer-related product concerns. The engineer will implement necessary measures to enhance product quality by pinpointing and rectifying product discrepancies. The focus is on proactively fostering customer satisfaction through the delivery of superior thermal products in the market.

Core Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary authority for product quality and reliability for Boyd's System Cooling Products.
  • Develop and execute processes to promptly address and resolve customer product quality challenges.
  • Establish quality standards at the production level.
  • Collaborate with production management to identify failure modes and drive enhancements.
  • Ensure swift resolution of any product discrepancies identified during incoming or in-process inspections.
  • Identify and mitigate cost factors related to quality, including waste and rework in manufacturing.
  • Engage directly with production teams to elevate product quality.
  • Collaborate with the service team to partake in failure analysis, gather data, and minimize product failure occurrences.
  • Facilitate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) related to product quality throughout the organization to ensure prompt resolution of any findings or discrepancies.
  • Lead audits of processes and quality systems.
  • Compile and present product quality metrics to the Quality Manager on a monthly basis.
  • Contribute to the creation of customer prototypes to ensure adherence to quality requirements.
  • Serve as a mentor for advanced problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, DMAIC).
  • Define inspection protocols, requirements, frequency, and sampling both internally and with suppliers.
  • Drive quality improvements at key suppliers to guarantee high-quality incoming materials.
  • Be prepared to assist customers across various time zones.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally as necessary.
  • Promote lean practices and 6S methodologies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as a valued member of the Boyd team.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of three years of pertinent experience. Alternatively, eight years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Previous experience with torch brazing, assembly-based manufacturing, lean methodologies, Six Sigma, and 6S practices. Knowledge of plumbing and refrigeration is advantageous.
  • Experience in an ISO9001 quality environment; familiarity with AS9100 is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities, capable of managing relationships with both suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of leading multiple projects while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams.
  • Core competencies should include proficiency in Microsoft Office, 8D problem-solving, GD&T, Six Sigma, Minitab (statistical analysis), SPC, and APQP/PPAP.
  • Experience with the application of statistical methods, including capability studies and gage repeatability and reproducibility (gage R&R), X-bar and R charts is beneficial.
  • Experience with brazing, plumbing, pumps, refrigeration, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical components is preferred.
Education / Background
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline with at least three years of experience in a similar quality-focused role.
